Surfers from many nationalities and cultures gathered last weekend 13th and 14th of March at Duranbah Beach Australia, to compete at the Mott International Student Surf Challenge 2010. On its 4th edition, the event had competitors from 12 countries representing 21 schools, celebrating the love for surf in 2 days of good waves and cultural exchange. Organizers also had a massive support from an international team with people from Brazil, Australia, Sweden and France. The crew truly embraced the concept of the event which is combine education, cultural exchange and sport in a fun environment. Waves of up to 1.5 metres challenged the surfers who didn't let anyone down on the beach putting together some impressive performances. Stand outs of the event including Dai Wako (Japan), Oney Anwar (Indonesia), Brett Levingston (Australia) and Brazil's Thiago Machado and Leo Villas Boas. But who really was impressive was Brazilian surfer Jefferson Silva. Former ISA world junior champion 2006. With some beautiful performances, Silva came first in the International Student and Aussie Student open categories as well as the Pasti Expression Session with a massive "Alley Oop" taking home 15 days in a luxury boat at Maldives, 10 days at Pasti in Indonesia and a brand new Stuart surfboard latest model. In the Girls Student Open, Brazilian surfer Juliana Gadelha who came to Australia to study took out the title and a Silvana Lima surfboard handed by Silvana herself who was on the beach watching the event. Also in the final was surfer and staff Stefanie Crowley (Australia) 2nd, Sandra Johnhanson (Sweden) 3rd and Virginia Ferraz (Brazil) in 4th. One of the most anticipated heats of the event was the School Tag Team, an exciting battle between the schools Burleigh Heads Language Centre 5th, Southern Cross University 4th, The Design Works 3rd, Palm Beach Currumbin High 2nd and Griffith University 1st taking the trophy back to campus for the first time.
