NEW SOUTH WALES
New South Wales, the “First State, Premier State” was founded in 1788. It is Australia's most populous state, with a population of 6,817,10 people (end of March 2006). NSW is located in the south-east of the country, north of Victoria, south of Queensland, and borded on the west by South Australia.
New South Wales' three major cities are Sydney (its capital), Newcastle and Wollongong which all lie along the coast. Other notable settlements include Albury, a large town which borders with Victoria; Broken Hill, the most Westerly large town; Dubbo; Orange, Bathurst, home of the Bathurst 1000; Port Macquarie, Tamworth, home to the country music festival; Armidale, Inverell, Lismore, Nowra, Gosford, Griffith, Queanbeyan, Leeton, Wagga Wagga, Goulburn, where a large proportion of the Australia's fruit is grown and Coffs Harbour, a popular tourist destination.
SYDNEY
Sydney, "the Harbour City" is Australia's oldest and largest city and is the site of the first European colony in Australia, established in 1788. It is the most populous city in Australia, with a population of 151,920 (ABS 2005-06) . Sydney is the State capital of New South Wales. It is built around Port Jackson, which includes Sydney Harbour.
Sydney is located on Australia's south-east coast. It is Australia's largest financial centre and the economic capital, home to many national headquarters of corporations. It is a major international tourist destination, and is notable for its beaches and twin landmarks: the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
There are beautiful beaches and waterways in Sydney. North of the city are the Northern Beaches which start at Manly. Manly is the perfect destination to enjoy both the harbour and the 18 ocean beaches, coves and inlets to swim, sail and surf.
Along the coastline of Sydney are beaches, including the well-known Bondi Beach. Small coves and harbours dot the coastline. Inland can be found the Sydney Harbour National Park where pockets of bushland are interrupted by headlands and small islands.
